Gratitude turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity…it makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.

Melody Beattie

Today marks the end of the Broken Bits: Seven Days of Gratefulness! I want to thank everyone who took this journey with me, everyone who sent in their notes of gratitude, and a special ‘THANK YOU’ to Chaunte, whose daily presence made the week less lonesome (Mitchell’s ice cream on me, next time you’re in town 😊).

I feel like I’m cheating by saying this, but today I am grateful for completing the seven days of gratefulness. I’d felt that I needed to stop and count my blessings but had no idea just how much. Spending these days actively highlighting my gains forced me to see just how much I naturally focus on my lack. Not only is that an exercise in fruitlessness, but it is exhausting.

Gratitude and attitude are not challenges; they are choices.

Considering all that’s occurred in my life this past year, I could spend all day mentally cataloging everything I’ve lost. Or I could feast on my current blessing, allowing the ‘enough’ of my life to fuel me into my future. When I read quotes like the one above, the choice seems simple.

Which reminds me, I am SO grateful for written word. I’m grateful that individuals much smarter than I were gracious enough to share their wisdom with the world. I’m grateful that I get to read bolstering words and thoughts from men and women who lived long before me. And I’m grateful that this beautiful medium of communication allows you and me to share our hearts, although we may be miles apart.

I hope this week encouraged someone to fight through the darkness of this life and hold tight to gratefulness. I’ve decided to continue my grateful journey outside of this blog, but if you ever want to share your moments of gratitude, please do! Reading your words sparked so much joy in me – again, thank you.

Piglet noticed that even though he had a Very Small Heart, it could hold a rather large amount of Gratitude.

“I am grateful that I was able to start this journey with you. My journey will continue after this I have so much to be grateful for. I have so much love in my life. God has a purpose for my life. I was reminded that the things that are being removed are a blessing and is a part of a greater plan and not punishment.”
-Chaunte
