It’s a funny thing about life, once you begin to take note of the things you are grateful for, you begin to lose sight of the things that you lack.

The past two weeks have been quite stressful. My responsibilities at work doubled overnight, I began a new course in school that I have little interest in, and I’ve begun training for a 5K. It wasn’t a bad week, just stressful. Then I spent my Saturday prepping, baking, and delivering cakes. I woke up this Sunday morning with a great list of things to do: read, research, write a paper for class, write this blog, laundry, meal-prep for the week, cleaning, etc.

Instead, I stayed in my robe all day and watched 90’s television while giving myself spa treatments. I gave myself a pedicure, manicure, facial (with steam), deep conditioned my hair, and sat in a comfy chair, and used my shiatsu machine on my neck, shoulders, and back. It was the best day!

I feel incredibly grateful today. Not because I shucked all of my responsibilities, but because I have enough peace to make myself the number one priority. It took a looooong time to get here. I used to allow myself to get so overwhelmed that it would actually affect my health. But, today, I chose me and enjoyed every moment.

So, I just want to express my gratefulness today. I have no money, and I haven’t seen my friends and family in more than a year, yet my cup runneth over with joy!

I know you all hate this, but I want to hear about the things that you all are grateful for! We share a lot of random information in this new world, but we rarely share enough gratefulness and joy. I would be honored to share in yours! In the comments or an email, please write one or ALL of the things that fill your cup – I’m so excited to read it.

  1. Well now…I could (like Billy Joel) go to extremes on this…but I will try to keep it fairly brief.
On this Monday I am grateful for:

Waking up. Good coffee. Sunshine. Little birds spashing in the birdbath. Finding a short video of Art Garfunkel and his son…who sounds EXACTLY like his Dad. ❤ Finding a video of "The Midnight Quilter" with another version of the Cathedral Window quilt. Strangely enough, my late Mother in Law who introduced me to that quilt pattern. Sitting in the car with my 10 year old grandson after getting him from school and having a long conversation about Trombone Shorty and how he played with Bo Didley and the similarities of Joe Bonamassa opening for B.B. King. And last (but not least) bookcases full of books I hope to live long enough to read or reread. And one more ….this post because I was feeling a bit down today but making this list has made the day better 🙂 Thank you Nikita.

  2. I am most grateful for my adorable and loving grandkids! And their parents for allowing me so much time with them. And of course, my health. I’m actually grateful the sun was shining today, since that is such a rare occurrence in the Cleveland area. I’m grateful the birds are showing up as Spring nears.

  3. I have been so grateful for this year! It has actually been the best year ever. I feel like I’ve made a ton of new friends that are so much more “me” than friends from, say, 5 or more years ago. I’ve finally found my community where I live! I started teaching silks! I love what it has done for my body. I have music students that supported me through a pandemic. I have a gorgeous house. And…most oddly, I seem now driven to say goodbye to all of these wonderful things and start a new chapter in Mexico. I’m feeling pushed to start a new cycle of finding people like me and things I love in a new language and a new place. I don’t know how I could have come up with such a crazy plan by myself, so I’m grateful for divine intervention leading me down a new path. Life is magnificent!

    1. There’s soooo much I want to say about this, but I’ll wait until we’re hanging out in Mexico! Nothing compares with being embraced by people who accept and enhance who you are. I haven’t had that in a long time. I’m so happy for you! A divinely-inspired new path saved my life – I’m so excited to see what yours is going to do for you 🙂

  4. Great post! I’m glad you took the time for yourself; that is definitely not the norm for you… at least not for the old you!

I’m grateful for the people in my life. I have what some would call a pretty small circle. I tend to think my circle is just as big as anyone else’s. The people in it are just bigger pieces of the pie.

I’m grateful for my health, and for my job, in a time when neither are guaranteed, and I’m grateful for your thought-provoking blog posts that make come to such realizations. Thank you!
