This is a wonderful day. I’ve never seen this one before.

Maya Angelou

Before dawn today, I wrapped my arms around a dear friend moving out of the country. I mournfully considered that I wouldn’t see her again for months, and considering the current way of the world, possibly longer. Presumably, I could never see her again! The weight of uncertainty was heavy. I could be hugging my friend for the last time.

As I slowly descended into the dark abyss of what if, I was yanked from the depths by the stark reality that I NEVER know when I’ll see anyone for the last time. We create these ‘if/then’ scenarios in our minds, but most of us are entirely blindsided when actual tragedies strike. Today could be the last time I see ANY of the people I love. And it could be the last time that any of them see me.

So, today, I am grateful for time! The nonrenewable resource that we seem to complain about more than appreciate. I’m grateful for the precious gifts of time that I’ve been given to meet, connect with, share with, grow with, laugh with, and love the people I’ve cherished. And I’m thankful to everyone who has found me worthy of spending their irreplaceable moments of time on.

We live in deeds, not years; in thoughts, not breaths; in feelings, not in figures on a dial. We should count time by heart throbs.

Aristotle

“I am grateful for acceptance. As I woke up the weight of the rejecting behavior of people was upon me or at least my perception. But God reminded me of my acceptance in Christ.”

  1. I am grateful for acceptance. As I woke up the weight of the rejecting behavior of people was upon me or at least my perception. But God reminded me of my acceptance in Christ.
